Location: Durban, KZN 

Reporting to: Site Manager 

  

We are seeking a hands on individual to oversee the daily retail operations of the shop and café, ensuring excellent customer service, strong stock and cash controls, product availability, food quality (where applicable), and full compliance with hygiene, safety, and brand standards.

  

Retail & Shop Operations

  • Oversee day to-day operations of the convenience shop and café
  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked, merchandised correctly and priced accurately
  • Maintain FIFO principles across all food and retail stock
  • Monitor expiry dates, damages, shrinkage and wastage
  • Ensure promotions, combo deals, and pricing are correctly implemented
  • Ensure store cleanliness, layout, and presentation meet brand standards at all times


Café & Food Service Oversight

  • Supervise preparation and service of food and beverages to company standards
  • Ensure correct food handling, portion control and presentation
  • Assist with developing new menu items and standardised recipes
  • Monitor food and menu costs, waste and yield control
  • Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene and health regulations
  • Maintain cleanliness of café areas, equipment and food preparation zones


Staff Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise shop and café staff, including onboarding, training and daily task allocation
  • Monitor staff performance and provide coaching and corrective guidance where required
  • Act as first point of contact for staff queries relating to shifts, duties and performance
  • Ensure staff are correctly uniformed, presentable and customer-focused


Stock & Controls

  • Ensure POS systems are used correctly and discrepancies are reported immediately
  • Assist Site Manager with stock takes and retail audits


Minimum requirements:   

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in retail, convenience store or food service supervision
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, stock control and customer service
  • Experience working with POS systems and cash controls
  • Supervisory or leadership experience essential
  • Matric required; food safety certification advantageous

MDH Group is seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Finance Controller to manage day-to-day financial administration and controls across our service stations and retail operations. 


This role is  responsible for ensuring accurate bookkeeping, reconciliations and financial discipline across fuel, retail, café and payroll operations. The successful candidate will work closely with site teams, suppliers  and management to provide reliable financial information, support decision-making and maintain strong operational controls. 


Key responsibilities include: 

  • Daily cash, POS, fuel and shift reconciliations 
  • Maintaining accurate financial records in Xero 
  • Managing suppliers, creditors, payments and debtor accounts 
  • Performing fuel, retail, bakery and stock reconciliations and audits 
  • Overseeing payroll inputs and liaising with external payroll providers 
  • Preparing weekly and monthly management reports and analysis 
  • Supporting compliance, audits, budgeting and forecasting 


Minimum requirements: 

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance or Bookkeeping 
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a multi-site retail, fuel or FMCG environment (preferred)  
  • Strong reconciliation, analytical and Excel skills 
  • Working knowledge of Xero and Hubdoc advantageous 
  • High attention to detail, integrity and ability to work to deadline


We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Site and Retail Manager to lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of our petrol station, convenience store (kiosk) and QSR situated in Johannesburg South. 


This role  is responsible for delivering excellent customer experience, driving  sales and profitability, managing teams, and ensuring full compliance with brand, legal and operational standards. The successful candidate should be a strong leader with solid commercial and financial  understanding, able to manage multiple retail environments while maintaining high operational and service standards. 


Key responsibilities include: 

  • Managing daily retail, food and forecourt operations 
  • Driving sales growth, gross profit and cost control 
  • Ensuring brand standards, hygiene, safety and legal compliance 
  • Leading, motivating and developing site teams 
  • Overseeing stock control, administration and reporting to head office 
  • Analysing performance and implementing improvement initiatives 


Minimum requirements: 

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in retail or food service management 
  • Minimum 5 years’ team leadership experience 
  • Strong financial and commercial skills 
  • Matric (Diploma or Degree in Retail, Business or Hospitality advantageous) 
  • Ability to work retail hours, including weekends
